Deborah Flindall
Deborah and her family first visited Wengen in 1992. A chance meeting with the Wengen Manager on the train to Klein Scheidegg in 1995 introduced them to the DHO and since then they have skied in Wengen every year, and enjoyed all that the club and Wengen have to offer, not only in the winter but also throughout the year.
Sarah Hirst-Malin
The Membership Secretary Sarah Hirst-Malin first skied in Wengen with her parents in the early 1970s when the village was small and ski school was run in Swiss German only, The Eiger Hotel was wooden, and long before the Coop was built in its current location.
A keen skier and racer, Sarah spends as much time in Wengen as possible, both winter and summer. She has now unfortunately been overtaken in ski-speed by both her children!
Her role as The Membership Secretary includes responsibility for maintaining and administering the club’s data base of all members and managing the annual September renewals in September. This includes maintaining a record of contact details, fees and donations paid. Another annual task is sending out newsletters and flyers to all members.

Norman Freund
DHO Communications & Marketing provides the Club with internal and external information and marketing material. It also works on external activities designed to publicize and promote the Club with a view to increasing our membership. The Chairman also coordinates communications activities performed by other DHO functions.
Norman has been a DHO member since 1962 and has served as Editor, Advertising Manager and as a member of the Management Committee. He spent more than thirty years with IBM leading to a global senior management role in software development, marketing and support. In addition to himself, his late wife, son and daughter, with their families, have all been annual visitors to Wengen. Three grandchildren are now becoming avid skiers (the oldest of them having already thankfully discarded the idea of snowboarding!).
The Journal
Brian Bollen
The DHO Journal is an annual magazine sent to members each autumn. It is usually just under 100 pages long, A4 in size and contains the previous season’s race results, numerous photographs, reports and articles covering subject matter relating to skiing, Wengen and its surroundings.
The editor, Brian Bollen, has had a strong connection with Wengen for more than 40 years, since first arriving in town on June 17 1974 to spend the summer season working as a hall porter in the Grand Hotel Palace & National (aka The Palace).
Although not a skier, he is a highly experienced writer and editor, who learnt his trade at the Financial Times Group before becoming a full-time freelance in January 1993.
He has written about skiing, most notably the Lauberhorn World Cup ski races for the FT, and for the DHO Journal since the 2013 edition, when he covered the Inferno races for the first time.
Like his illustrious predecessors, he is always on the look-out for articles both from members of the club and from outside the DHO, aiming to include anything that might interest members and potential new members.
The DHO Journal is regarded by many as the best ski magazine in the Alps. The editor’s aim is to continue developing a “coffee table” style of magazine to be enjoyed by all its readers. It is a combination of a document of record and a document of some style and someimes even wit, reflecting the DHO's history and traditions, and occasionally nudging it in the general direction of the future.
Even in this relentlessly digital age, its traditional presentation to new members marks a clear rite of passage between the outside world and the DHO.
James Wilson
James Wilson is our Advertising Manager and is the point of contact for anyone wishing to advertise on either our website or in our annual Journal. He lives in Wengen with his wife and two children which causes constant bemusement amongst his work colleagues given that he commutes to Zürich! He first came to Wengen on business ten years ago and soon realized that it was the perfect place to base the family in the longer term. Three years ago, it became reality. James also plays an active role in the running of our Clubroom and is well-known amongst all the hoteliers and shop owners in the village.
He can be found year-round in Wengen and can also be contacted on +41 (0)79 500 82 01
Club Racing
Liz Moore
I am just a long standing member of DHO, my children went through the R & T programme under Ingie, I have skied most of my life , lived in Switzerland for 34 years, founded and run a ski team , run an international children's race for the past 14 years in Wengen, live in Wengen all winter, and love what skiing and ski racing bring to so many adults and children especially in a team environment.

Andrew Davies
That's me, always has as his focus; everyone being safe and having fun.
I love skiing. With others mostly, although I do enjoy the occasional solo cruise.
Following 9 winters as the DHO Wengen manager I am fairly familiar with the Jungfrau Ski Region. Each day you ski with me I will seek to facilitate great fun, adventure and group camaraderie. When not skiing I work in tourism and personal development with all sorts of people so whilst we ski, we can chat about almost anything. Hopefully see you in Wengen sometime.
The Website
David Orf
David Orf has been visiting Wengen since the very early 1970’s, he learned to ski with the Swiss Ski School and later in Coggins, he just wishes he could spend a lot more time in Wengen, rather than in front of a computer.
David works with the team that comprise the DHO’s Communications & Marketing subcommittee, providing the artwork for printed media (other than the journal) and keeping the new website as well as Facebook & Twitter Pages up to date with current information.
As of November 2022 he is now the Data Protection Officer
Lara Hirst-Malin
As the Social Media Manager my role is to manage the DHO's Instagram feed, I also help with the other social media pages
