Just as the Journal was going to press, we heard the sad news that Bruce Sutherland had died. Being too late for inclusion in this years Journal but with nearly 11 months before the next Journal, a brief notification follows.
Bruce was a nationally well known chartered accountant, who specialised in dealing with privately owned and unquoted companies. He spent some years working with Mrs Thatcher’s government as an adviser for which he was eventually awarded a CBE.
He Joined the DHO in 1972, he used to stay at the Wengernalp Hotel each year, and was 98 years old when he died.
He was infamous for his many stories and fables about the history of the mountains and occupants of the Bernese Oberland, all of which were published in the DHO Journal.
