Coggins and Eagles

Coggins and Eagles

As a family ski-club the DHO organises a number of all-day fun training courses for youngsters during the British School Holidays. Our coaching programmes are designed to develop the individual to get the best out of their skiing in whatever direction they choose.

Coggins is great foundation training for kids (aged 7-13) building versatility, speed, control and a love for skiing.

For teenagers who want sociable all mountain skiing with a great Swiss Ski School Coach we have the  Eagles (aged 13-18)

A weekly race is included in the program to give children a chance to go down a professional race course and win cups and medals. We train versatile, adaptable, skilful skiers with a life-long love of skiing, they have fun and make life-long friends. Several who started in Coggins have gone on to be Ski Teachers and even come back to teach with us in Wengen Ski School.

As we provide an all-day activity Parents can go off and explore the Jungfrau region in the knowledge that their kids are having the best time with a great bunch of like-minded skiers. To be a Coggin or an Eagle, the family needs to take at least one adult membership or family membership

DHO "Coggins" Age 7 -13

Christmas 2026,
Half Term and Easter 2027

Coggins is unique to the DHO and to Wengen. The origins of the name are lost in the mists of time, but it is thought to refer to the little “Cogs” on the railway.

Skiing

Fun, Fast skiing for 7 to 13-year olds. When kids are ready for something different from regular ski-school they should try DHO Coggins. Coggins runs all day so Parents are free to do their own thing or ski with the DHO adults.

Developing speed and control in recreational and pre-race training Kids. The emphasis is on fun and activity-based learning. Trainers are carefully selected from the Swiss Ski School though the Coggins training programme is distinct in its approach to skier development. Coaching is given on the move with constantly changing tasks and variety of terrain. We do a lot of skiing and the trainers know every jump and bump on the mountain. Coggins learn a lot whilst having the best time!!

Parents have commented not only on what their kids achieve with skiing but also on the development of personal confidence and social skills.

Kids just say “It’s cool”!!

Group Size

We try to keep the group size to a maximum of 8 or 10. However, we will organise as many groups as we can so that group standards are more even.

Early booking helps.

Racing

Coggins can expect to take part in a race during their week for which they all receive a certificate and there are prizes for the winners. We are often privileged to race on the Lauberhorn World Cup Piste especially for our big half term event. The prize giving is a great event back in the DHO Club Room and is also when we present the coveted Coggins Badge.

Timing

Meeting at 8.45 am outside the Mannlichen Cable car station. Returning to the same place at 3.00pm to be collected. The kids are taken to lunch by their trainers at Kleine Scheidegg where they can be met by parents if necessary.

Standard

Good ski school Class 3 (red prince), not always parallel but they will be able to ski red runs with few falls and be both brave and keen. We are not able to take beginners or cautious snow-ploughers.

Coggins should be able get on and off a chair lift, look after their own sweetie money and go to the loo by themselves and in time!!

Clothing

All Coggins wear suitable helmets, provided by the ski hire shops, and DHO race bibs for identification.

Parents are responsible to make sure that Coggins have suitable clothing for the conditions including warm layers, warm gloves,  protective goggles, sun screen, etc.
