Lauberhorn weekend
The preparations and build up to the Lauberhorn week end have dominated the hustle and bustle of the village.
It is a major logistics operation and needs to be seen to believed!
The start of the week brought fresh snow fall which made for lovely skiing but probably not what the race organizers needed!
This led to hundreds of man hours of clearing snow from the course with rows of workers shoveling and snow blowers in action.
As the race weekend approached the various national ski teams started to arrive at the Wengen station, vast amounts of holdalls, boxes, ski bags, gym equipment, exercise bikes, waxing equipment and the racers were moved from the station to hotels by a fleet of taxis, burdened with their load, they crawled off to form their team bubbles in the the hotels throughout the village.
We had our own club race on Thursday, MR WAMP (Minor Race With A Massive Prize) a two run GS on the Honegg piste, it was very kind of the Swiss air force to do a display for us!
The weather remained cold an clear for the racing on the weekend, which made for great racing and spectating. The Norwegian, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won the shorter Friday race and Austrian, Vincent Kriechmayr first place on the Saturday Lauberhorn downhill.
The weekend was rounded off with a very exciting finish to the slalom. The winner, Lucas Braathen from Norway, maintaining first place on the second run, after being positioned 29th in the first run!
