As doubtless many of you are already aware, Ingie (Ingrid) retired from the DHO Racing & Training (R&T) this year after having been involved with DHO training for 52 years and Manager of R&T for the past 30 years. It is difficult, if not impossible, to describe just how much Ingie has given to the DHO through imparting her knowledge, enthusiasm and love for the sport in organising the training of so many young people every year. In consequence she has promoted ordinary skiers into highly skilled, competitive racers. Her name is synonymous with the DHO but Ingie has also been much involved in the international arena being one of the best known, respected individuals in the sport. Ingie is highly qualified technically and her qualifications are too numerous to list here but to mention just a few, she was a member of the British Womens’ Alpine Ski Team for 5 years, she gained the top BASI ski qualification, she became an International Trainer at the Austrian State Ski School, managed the British Childrens’ Team and is a FIS Technical Delegate for Alpine, Speed Skiing and Cross Country. As an International Alpine FIS Technical delegate, Ingie is one of a very rarified group who can organise and manage FIS qualified races anywhere in the world. She has received numerous awards for her services to skiing including receiving an MBE in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Ingie, whose father was Norwegian and her mother Australian, speaks no less than six European languages and has a working knowledge of Russian. Needless to say she is extremely well known and much in demand in skiing circles but in spite of such alternative opportunities Ingie has loyally devoted her working life to the racing and training of the DHO. R&T doesn’t simply stop at the end of the winter season in March as there is still training to be organized during the summer on glaciers in Austria or France or even in Canada and sometimes further afield in the likes of Chile and New Zealand. In between times, during the summer months, Ingie helps out with the organisers of the Glyndbourne Opera House.
Now, in her mid seventies, Ingie has finally decided to retire. It is therefore only right that we mark her retirement with a celebratory party.
