Ruth Marshall lets us know what’s been happening this week in Wengen
Ruth Marshall
The week started with me meeting up with Clare to lead with for the first time. We had a great turn out the first day and I was happily reunited with some of the members with whom I had skied with at the end of January/beginning of March. The general call was for more snow needed so we were rewarded on Monday and my big fat skis even got an airing! Tuesday was the big day for the club this week with the President’s Party in the club room that evening. The room was full of members and specially invited guests enjoying Prosecco, canapés, celebration iced cake and of course lots of social chat!
We have had a real mixture of weather this week ranging from white outs at times to glorious sunshine at others and pistes ranging from hard pack to slush but some early morning conditions on piste after light rain have been just ‘floating” so no complaints here. We had a great day over at Grindelwald First with fabulous snow off the Oberjoch chair but even the run down to Bort was good in the morning so we had both coffee and lunch there before the snow got too soft.
Our last day skiing of this week has been over at Mürren with us DHO Leaders (and members dipping in and out) a Ski Club GB Rep plus a new Rep/DHO Member it was a bit like the saying ‘how many electricians does it take to change a light bulb’ – I eventually dipped out and never did get to have any lunch!
Clare has now finished her first leading slot with DHO and I’m still here hoping that we will have members to ski with this last week of the season.
