All of the businesses in Wengen are struggling and some may not survive. Here are some suggestions as to what DHO members could do to help support the business community in Wengen.
Things that could be done now:
Donate to the Molitor support fund https://www.lokalhelden.ch/molitor; this longstanding local business has launched a crowdfunding site seeking financial support. Otherwise it may not survive.
If travel restrictions permit book a holiday in Wengen during the Autumn.
Anything that can be pre-booked for next Winter (e.g. equipment hire, lessons etc.) in one of the local shops, try and do so now rather than wait until the Winter. This will help the cashflow situation enormously. Even though shops are closed at the moment, there is normally someone there answering calls and emails.
Members who normally book hotels and apartments for their ski holiday try and book them now. Again this will help with cashflow.
All members who have close contacts in the village keep in touch with them over the Summer. Just a quick email asking them how they are would be much appreciated. A few words of encouragement from DHO members will at least give them all some much needed support.
Encourage friends and family to visit Wengen.
Things that can be done when you are next in Wengen:
· Support the local farmers by buying fresh milk, cheese, cream, butter from them, rather than from Coop. Not only is it fresher, but it’s also cheaper.
Use the Dorflade as well the Coop. Remember they do home delivery.
Homeowners & those who stay in apartments: try to support one of the local restaurants and bars at least once during their stay. One dinner out per stay will go a long way.
Buy souvenirs from Swiss Made Shop or Foto Fritz rather than in supermarkets or at airports.
