Prior to this return we have had endless days of settled weather with blue sky days and great skiing all be it a bit heavy and slushy in the afternoons.
The end of April concludes the season for skiing this winter although it’s still possible, for the keen up in the Punchbowl!
We had a couple of late snowfalls, producing wintery conditions, although the ground is so warm now that it disappears in the village within a day or two.
There were plenty of shenanigans at the traditional pool race. A rather chilly wind was blowing and those waiting at the top of the slope in their costumes looked cold, mind you not as cold when they hit the pool!
We held the penultimate race of the season, a giant slalom on the Lauberhorn piste. Moved to a Tuesday as the weather forecast was poor for Thursday. It paid off, as we held the race in fantastic conditions on a firm piste.
We welcomed Colin MacAllister to the club as the final ski leader for this season. Colin is a BASI instructor and SCGB representative and had already had a week based in Wengen earlier in the season. Colin enjoyed the club atmosphere and skiing with members.
We had a lovely morning for the last club race of the season we set the course on the Mannlichen race piste.
A good turnout of members took on the challenge of a combination of slalom and giant slalom turns, testing their ability to change the rhythm of turns and control of speed. The best run time counted.
