I began skiing at 14, which became a job as a BASI instructor working in the Scottish Highlands in 10 years in the 80’s.
Work, if I can call it that, became a period of b2b seasons in France and New Zealand. Becoming ISIA licensed I moved to Aberdeen enabling me to ski teaching & coach junior race teams both on snow and plastic slopes across Scotland. Tignes holds for me my best memories of mountains, snow, and much more.
My most significant achievement was post ACL injury racing in FIS alpine races; somewhat older than the rest of the competitors.
In my down time I enjoy competing in our local hill races, and puff-athlons. I undertake safety consultancy work for outdoor adventure centres and have various DIY projects on the go.
I have a wife, who is currently working as a ski instructor. And I have two sons, now in 20s who have now retired from racing with the Scottish Alpine Team to work as ski instructors alongside their university obligations!
