Another glorious week in Wengen. Many of the Inferno team managed to have some training which may have influenced our teams stirling performance. A huge thank you to Sean McCarthy & Sheridan for all their hard work. In recognition of this his name will be engraved on the DHO Inferno shield. Race day itself was its usual mix of burning desire, nerves jangling and stomachs turning. We had an excellent support team in Murren as well; although the sunshine did make it a pretty pleasant environment. I am of course extremely pleased with my Bronze medal which among other things guarantees me a place in the next three Inferno’s if I would like one! Here are our teams times. Well done to Alex and Marguerite for fastest male and fastest female. An impressive showing from Evan, Pete, Beatrice and Daniel all on their first Inferno Races.

The day before the race I had this great plan to ski half a day and rest; unfortunately a visiting new to Wengen skier, Alison and myself found so much untracked fresh snow that we ended up skiing about 4000 vertical meters of off-piste. A great day but gave me sore legs rather than rested ones. The success of the DHO Team in the Inferno also encouraged much partying on Saturday night. In Wengen after drinks and dinner at the Falken hotel some of us went out!. We bounced around to Dance Off by Macklemore, enjoyed a Belgian beer. In Murren the big party was enjoyed at least by Pete, Bryce and David Beaney. I think many of us had sore heads and less energy than we have normally. However the conditions are such that we till had a fantastic days skiing on Sunday.

The DHO team and the weeks to come:

We welcomed some old faces and regular faces into Wengen over the last day or so. Lovely to have Jeff & Steph back. And of course as we near McMillan week many of our friends start filling the town. This is a quiet week in general for the village, but not for our club. Sign up sheets for Race helpers and participators will be available soon. When you pop into the club room to register for races or helping, collect your membership card and sign the members book. Finally a huge congratulations to Dave Ryding for his monumental achievement today – 2nd in a world cup Slalom event!
