Ski Touring Equipment
The very nice people at Terrawest are offering members, some significant discounts on some of their ski touring equipment.
Terrawest were kind enough to send us a sample of their Core Light Shovel for some destructive testing, so we sent it to Andrew our Wengen Manager, for some abuse and evaluation.
Andrew reports that the colours are nice and bright so you won’t loose it easily in the snow, it’s light but surprisingly strong, making it a good choice for carrying in a daypack (more on that in a minute) The shovel goes together easily and feels solid in use, the handle is comfortable and the blade of the shovel has a shape that makes it easy to use from any angle. Andrew did have two small issues with it, firstly the rear of the shovel slopes which would make it difficult to put a foot on it and force it into heavily packed down snow, secondly he found that the front of the shovel bent slightly when attacking Scottish hard packed soil. But he didn’t manage to break it and overall thinks it’s a pretty good shovel, especially for the price.
Normally these sell for £24.99 you can find them here with full technical specs, but the nice people at Terrawest will sell them direct to DHO members for just £14.50, at that price it might even be worth buying two and keeping one in the car just in case !
To take advantage of any of the Terrawest deals please call Cain Hayler direct on 01273 737676 and tell him you’re from the DHO, or email him at cain.terrawest@gmail.com
If you want to carry the snow shovel whilst skiing the handy Terrawest Core 22 Litre Backpack is we think a pretty good option, in the event of you being caught in an avalanche it has a built in Recco Reflector that will help pisteurs find you along with plenty of well thought out pockets and straps to hold your equipment, for more information have a look here, once again though we are getting a great deal, don’t pay the £64.99 RRP instead members can get them for just £49.99
If you would like an extra Recco Reflector, we have also been offered a significant saving on these, for more information see this page, but don’t pay the list price, members can them for just £15.99 each
