March Update

Mixed conditions have prevailed over the last few weeks, mostly spring-like conditions with thawing pistes, although we have had the odd wintery spell with fresh snow topping up the pistes.

Blue sky day on Mannlichen

We did have a period of very unstable snow conditions, this is mainly due to the shallow snowpack this season which has resulted in a very weak layer remaining hidden within the layers.  We witnessed widespread avalanche activity within the ski area.

Avalanche Tschugen Peak

There was widespread avalanche activity across Switzerland, in a 5-day period there were 22 avalanche incidents recorded where the victims released the avalanche, 39 people were avalanched with 10 being buried.

We made sure we skied on low-angled terrain just to the side of the pistes during this period of high instability.

AICC Cortina d'Ampezzo

This year the Amateur Inter-Club Championships was hosted by Sci Club 18 in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The DHO team assembled a few days prior enjoying race training with Chemmy Alcott and the CDC team.

The championships were hampered by high wind conditions resulting in just the SuperG race being completed.

The team enjoyed the Italian hospitality during their stay.

The team is already looking forward to and planning for next year’s event in St Moritz!
