Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

The week leading up to Christmas was fairly quiet both in Wengen and in the DHO.  We enjoyed settled weather with good snow conditions. I ventured over to First on their opening day of the season and enjoyed spectacular views and great snow conditions.

We enjoyed a trip to Murren. Fabulous views from the Schilthorn at 2970m and great conditions for inspecting the Inferno course, which is due to be held on 19th – 22nd January! This year the club has 60 members competing in the downhill!

Leading up to Christmas Liz Moore organised a 3 day block of race training. A group of members enjoyed 3 days of Giant Slalom race training on the Honnig piste.

On Thursday 23rd December we held the Heinz Cup, an observational treasure hunt around the mountain.

Coggins groups also took part and finished at Allmend with some great Christmas songs!

Ingie Christophersen joined us over the Christmas week, taking part in the race training and sharing some of her stories, including the introduction of her book,  ‘To Heavens Heights’

Unfortunately after Christmas we have had a very mild spell of weather, with freezing levels around 2600m, with a period of exceptionally heavy rain. This has resulted in spring like conditions, with a few days of wet snow at all levels, however this has not dampened our spirits!

Wengen has become busier over the New Year weekend, the snow has firmed up and sharp edges are required. The forecast for the coming week is for cooler temperatures and some fresh snow by mid week.
