Powder days

During the last two weeks we have had a combination of fresh snowfalls followed by some great blue sky days. So we have been enjoying exploring the fresh snow close to and between the pistes.

Julian on Uber Moose

The fresh snow has been accompanied by strong winds which has presented a few challenges! One of those days being the Tourist Cup Giant Slalom, the Mannlichen cable car and chairlifts were off which led to the cancellation of the race!

Sacha enjoying the fresh snow

Andrew Davies

On Tuesday the 8th of February, the DHO had a celebration gathering to recognise and thank Andrew for his nine seasons of service to the club. Our President Nigel Ley gave a wonderful and humorous speech, recalling some special and funny moments and occasions from Andrews many seasons of outstanding service and in recognition of this, Nigel presented Andrew with a DHO Gold Badge. Hayley and Llachlan were also thanked for their support and involvement with the club and a lovely painting of the Eiger was also presented to Andrew.

Avalanche training

During the storm periods we have continued to offer training days for avalanche awareness, transceiver use and digging practice. These are important skills to acquire and practice and have been well received so far this season. I have also had good attendance at the Avalanche talk on Mondays at 16.30.

The Tourist Cup

We had a nice day on Thursday 10th February for the rescheduled Tourist Cup GS, combining the times of both runs for the overall time, which went well with 14 competitors taking part. Conditions were clear, cold with packed piste. The course was from the Lauberhorn start hut to the first bend and just beyond.

Well done to all the competitors and thanks to the helpers.

AICC 2022 9th-12th march

Hosting and volunteers

We are looking for DHO members, should you be in resort, to volunteer a little of their time during the week of 7th/14th march here is a list of a few jobs that need to be manned

Team captain’s meeting Thursday 10th march.

Meet and greet, handing drinks and canapes round handing out goodie bags to all competitors.

Friday 11th and Saturday 12th march

Gate keepers!!! We need at least 10 each day. It’s easy and your head gatekeeper pays lots of visits with hot chocolate, coffee, snacks and schnapps! You get to disqualify the opposition! Just kidding!

Friday 11th and Saturday 12th march

2 personnel controlling the finish area and making sure it is empty for the next racers. Keeping the crowds away from the scoreboard

Saturday 12th march

2 persons collecting bibs. Saturday 12th team parallel 3pm at the Figeller (snow permitting, otherwise on the bumps) if on the Figeller we will use the bar and if on the bumps we will use the Wasch bar as the “snow bar.”

  •  Keeping the finish area free of racers and spectators
  •  Working the flags at the bottom
  •  2 personnel at the top of the race , one on each side letting the racers go!
  •  1 person at the top telling them when they can set off and calling the teams into line

Prizegiving dinner

We are looking for volunteers on the evening , probably some of the racers, to help out with drinks at the prize giving and helping guests to the tables, where it will probably be free seating, but there will be a large board with the tables numbered and with the name of the Clubs on each table. We want Clubs to sit with their own friends and not strangers! We will need a volunteer who can draw? to make this large list of tables and names of Club members.

One Overall Job

We are looking for someone to record the proceedings of each day, this could be 3 different people, one for the Team Captain’s Meeting and Apero, one for Friday with the GS and Alpine Dinner and one for Saturday for the SG, Parallel and Prize giving, in order that we can report it correctly for the Journal in the autumn

Some of these jobs might sound complicated. I guarantee if I can do them you can all do them! In order for you to take a look at the event this year please go to www.aicc-ladiesskiclub.org there are three videos which give you a very good picture of what it is all about!

I very much look forward to hearing from you with any suggestions, queries and volunteering to take on some of the above tasks!!

This comes to you all with very best wishes from a very quiet but beautiful Wengen . Stay healthy, happy, smiling, laughing and looking forward to next winter season!
