I write from a very wintry Wengen, as in the last three days we have returned to cold and snowy conditions. The ski area is quiet and the village has an end of season feel with some of the hotels and bars closing or reduced hours, this is despite the fabulous conditions!
Prior to this return we have had endless days of settled weather with blue sky days and great skiing all be it a bit heavy and slushy in the afternoons.
On Tuesday 22nd March we had fabulous conditions for the Railway Cup, kindly hosted and organised by the Jungfraubahn. A 2 run Giant Slalom on the Lauberhorn Piste, conditions were calm and clear with a firm piste. The course was set by Heinz von Allmen and Marco Luggen (Head of Operations) welcomed the competitors and outlined the format, the race would be determined by the smallest time gap between the two runs.
After the race we gathered in the Kleine Scheidegg station restaurant, where we were treated to a delicious pasta lunch! Marco Luggen gave a speech outlining the progress and developments of the Jungfraubahn, with the Eiger Express bringing them into the Premier League of ski resorts, he was pleased to announce they had one of their most profitable seasons in the last ten years! Many thanks to Marco, Heinz, Rudi and the Jungfraubahn for their continuing support of the Railway Cup event.

After a few years of restrictions, Nigel Ley was able to invite local business owners, hoteliers, business partners and DHO members to attend The President’s Party in the DHO clubroom.
Members enjoyed gathering and meeting up with the local community members after a busy season.
