The last few weeks we have had spring-like weather here in Wengen and on the mountain. As a result, the snow is melting and the flowers are starting to pop up!
The village enjoyed welcoming home Olympic Ski Cross Champion and DHO Member Ryan Regez, a truly special and emotional occasion!
The Club also welcomed the Mackintosh Clan (Family of C.E.W. Mackintosh, past President of the DHO 1958 – 1964) up to 65 family members had gathered from around the world to ski in Wengen and celebrate their family! They enjoyed a visit to the Club Room, spending some time looking at the Trophies and Journals, exploring the past of their Father, Grandfather, and for some their Great Great Grandfather!
Cova Cup
We held The Cova Cup as a parallel slalom on the Figeller Piste, which attracted a field of over 60 competitors, numbers being boosted by AICC skiers, Sheffield Sharks Ski Club, and the Mac’s who entered 8 teams of 4!
Cova Cup Parallel Slalom
It was a great atmosphere with the Final being a close run between Dad’s Don’t Fall (DHO) and Team B (Mac’s) with the visiting team consisting of family members from the USA, New Zealand, and Scotland, Team B won by half a ski length!
AICC
On the 11th & 12th of March, the DHO hosted the Amateur Inter-Club Championships, ski clubs from France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland enjoyed competing on the Lauberhorn piste, Giant Slalom, and Super Giant Slalom. The 180 competitors enjoyed racing in their age group categories, well done to all those that took part, and congratulations to our Ladies DHO teams that finished on the podium! Spring conditions have prevailed during the past week, the pistes have been thawing and the snow is very heavy in the afternoons.
Some members have been enjoying their second ski trip of the season! Being led by Peter Lightfoot and Mark, we have had some great days in First and Murren despite the soft snow!
