Sunday 29th Dec
We started the week with the traditional DHO/Kandahar race. Well done to all 40 competitors for completing today’s race and a big thanks to Liz Moore, SOS for the piste prep and gate setting, the officials and marshals for enabling it to happen. And the fastest times were set by Tess Hoppler of Kandahar which gave them a strong win for this year.

Tune your edges! That was the message to all skiers. Sharp edges were needed to look good down Blackrock. A lot of the runs are becoming the same scraped condition. However Tshuggan was a lovely run albeit a tad nobbly.

Monday 30th Dec
Tshuggan from Gummi 12-11-21 all the way down, was the best run on the mountain with no one else around. Lesson to all- Remember to time arrival at the grindlewald terminal to avoid the groups (lots) of Asian tourists going up Jaugfrau.

Up at the eigergletcher the quick serve cafe, now called The Wall Bar, served wonderfully received Rivalle blue and loaded chilli chips. This late lunch refuelling stop set us up for more downhill skiing via Honaig, an empty Lauberhorn downhill to Inervengan then all guns blazing to Wengen

Tuesday 31st Dec
Tuesday was a fast ski day with some young bloods driving us on up and down or down and up Tshuggan. To start the day were the mannlichen blacks to avoid the masses. Then after some quality skiing our strategy for an early lunch at Grund was perfect. All the skiers disappeared from the slopes to prep for New Year festivities. Left us plenty of space for some short turns down the soft edges of pistes and cutting lines down the middle. We ended ourselves doing ‘slalom turns’ on the WC slalom run at Inervengan. Big respect for those WC racers👏. Another great day

New Year’s Day and 2nd Jan saw us skiing empty slopes given we all expected them to be mobbed. We all made the most of this splitting into fast and not so fast groups. This enabled confidence to grow for those skiing recovery from various medical conditions and injuries. After the day of skiing it was the tranquil scenes around the village that heal any mental trauma from the day.

The week is drawing to a close. We have an eye on some rough weather coming in from the North but with it forecast 20cm snow. So we blasted around at a comfortable pace. We took opportunity for some artistic photo shoot for the albums. Then with wind picking up and some lifts going of we headed to a warm refuge in the eigernorwand self service. The afternoon closed with a number of wind assisted runs on lauberhorn then a race the sledges down to Wengen. The winners are as we would expect.
Snow and sun expected tomorrow so no more time for any more blurb. Happy skiing to all in 2025.
