How much snow will be determined over the coming week. Right now it is glorious and cold here in Wengen and the snow making is working at full power. The runs available are increasing on a daily basis and soon you will be able to ski from the top of the easy-jet chair to the bottom of the Wixi Chairlift.
Look out for mentions of the ‘Swiss Travel Centre’ in this blog in days to come. We are looking forward to the announcement of special benefits for DHO members and hopefully some monthly prizes. You will need to come into the club room and register to participate in the competition.
Remember to come and see me to collect your membership card this winter. With your membership card you will get discounts in many Wengen shops and restaurants: Central Sports, Silberhorn Hotel, Caprice Hotel etc.
This last week we held the Cova Cup. Sina Cova of the Falken Hotel sponsors the race. Historically this was a challenge between the DHO and the Sharks Ski Club and perhaps it will be again in seasons to come. However this year it was to be a ski race; timed skiers through gates coming out of the Lauberhorn Race start hut. Perhaps the earliest race on the Lauberhorn ever to have been held.
During the race the snow was magnificent and grippy, the visibility perfect and the skiers varied! I am delighted to tell you that despite personal criticism of his own performance the extremely proficient Joe Williamson was the overall victor and showed his delight as he accepted his winners prize from Sina.
The DHO has introduced a junior membership bracket! Are you under 24? Do you want to ski fresh snow with people, other people? How about chillin’ in a pleasant place with a wee ski movie? Win races on snow and have your name engraved in history. Then all this can be yours for less than £30 a year :-).
Upon arrival in Wengen you also have the opportunity to register for special ski development classes. For just 35 Swiss francs per person for up to 3 hours tuition. A maximum class size of 8 with Ski Teachers of the calibre of Bob Eastwood or Julia Parsons. Register on Sunday or Monday evenings for the super special sessions.
